Consumer price index

Source

The same category from more than one publisher. The national statistics office is the record; the IMF's series are its own compilation and can differ in definition, coverage and vintage.

Geography

ANSADE publishes national and Nouakchott 2019=100 index histories from January 2016; the connector adds no splice. The September 2026 bulletin extends the national tree and publishes current month-on-month changes for Nouakchott, Nouadhibou, Aioun, Rosso and Atar. Other centres therefore show only the rate that ANSADE publishes. Food subgroups and analytical aggregates retain the bulletin's five comparison months; intervening months are not inferred.

Mauritania's alcohol and tobacco index steps 170.93 -> 108.69 in August 2020 (-36.4%) and then keeps falling -- 89.1, 80.9, 77.1, 74.1, 71.3, 63.0, 60.4 -- to a six-month average of 0.46x and well past that afterwards. The step is the start of a sustained decline rather than a level change, which is the shape a re-reference does not have. This is the strongest 'the prices really moved' case in the group. ANSADE's independent official portal history reproduces the national step (171.1 -> 108.8) and publishes the sharper Nouakchott sequence (194.9 -> 84.1 -> 56.4), establishing that neither is a connector join or silent base splice. The step is permanent, confined to one division, and not a revision: these values were published this way. What the data CANNOT settle is whether the division was put on a new base by itself or its prices really fell, because both produce exactly this shape and nothing held here separates them -- the series is verified at 100 in the reference period the source declares, which is true either way. The country's headline index barely moves in the same month, which is suggestive and not conclusive: these are mostly light divisions, so a real fall would leave only a small mark on the aggregate. What IS certain is the consequence, because the source's own rates are this index restated -- the published month-over-month and year-over-year figures equal the index ratios at all 388,805 and 370,534 overlapping cells, checked 2026-09-02. So if the step is a re-reference, the source's own rates divide across it, and the reader has to be told.

ANSADE's September 2026 bulletin prints exactly five comparison months for the nine food subgroups and seventeen analytical series: September 2025 and June through September 2026. The eight-month interval is not a parser omission: those are the only levels on the source table, while the portal's complete monthly history covers headline and twelve functions only. The connector preserves the five published points and does not interpolate the missing months.
